Located at the top of an ancient mountain in Southwest Ohio is a large collection of Native American burial mounds and their subsequent archeological dig sites.  The Fort Ancient Museum is intended to accommodate both the archeological practice in the area and growing tourism without obstructing the mounds themselves.  The building is set off to the side of the mounds on the steep slope of the mountain, following its topography and lifted up on reclaimed lumber stilts to limit its ecological impact.  Stilted above the main spaces of the building is a sloped green roof that resembles its neighboring burial mounds while minimizing its overall visibility from much of the park.
